Leonardo “Leo” Gheza, born on March 17, 1991, comes from Esine in the Valle Camonica, Italy. He still lives there today, but spends most of his time in the Alps or on expeditions around the world. If he had to describe himself in one word, it would be “hyperactive.” Leo is a passionate alpinist who trains methodically and strives to be as versatile as possible in his discipline – whether on rock, ice, or in high-altitude mountaineering. In recent years, he has also integrated paragliding into his mountaineering adventures, which has now become an essential part of his equipment. His preferred training ground is Mont Blanc.

His sporting journey began at the age of 7, when he started with judo – the sport his father practiced – and also tried swimming, football, and snowboarding. At 18, he discovered his true passion for climbing and alpinism, a turning point that led him to leave all other sports behind. At 29, he added paragliding to his skillset.

What fascinates Leo most about his sport is the balance between simplicity and complexity. He loves being able to create and follow his own projects, without anything being imposed on him. At the same time, alpinism gives him the chance to discover breathtaking places and push his limits. This is exactly what makes his sport so unique and special.

Looking to the future, Leo sees the evolution of alpinism in speed and lightness: connecting multiple summits or demanding routes within a single day – often with the support of paragliding. He also envisions pushing technical difficulty, as seen in the Alps, to over 7,000 meters in the Karakoram and Himalaya.

His guiding motto is: “Life is too short to waste time.”
