Hannes Slavik started cycling at the age of 7. "My older brother had a green BMX at the time, but I had to be satisfied with a city bike. Unfortunately, my bike couldn't take all the climbing and dropping which I did for long, so my parents put me in the BMX club in Vösendorf," Hannes recalls. It was through BMX that Hannes entered the MTB scene. There, thanks to his BMX background, he celebrated many international successes, especially in the disciplines 4X and Dual Slalom.
What Hannes loves most about biking is the variety. For him, every ride, every spot and even every bike has its own special aspects. Being out in nature and enjoying the scenery, combined with the exertion and adrenaline, are the perfect mix according to Hannes. Even in his youth, Hannes saw a lot of the world thanks to his sport. "My bike took me to places that school would never have taken me," Hannes still raves today.
For the future development of his sport, he would especially like to see better training conditions. His enthusiasm for the sport is still strong even after 25 years in the field and he's happy to be passing that on to his own kids now too.
